New snow

When it snowed the other night following some freezing rain, (that would have been Friday morning, actually), I had thought I might have a chance to get out and get some shots of the ice on the trees along with the snow before the sun did its thing and made the ice a memory. As it worked out, given the time of year and the length of days now, I went to work in the dark and came home in the very nearly dark. No photos that day. Yesterday, the forecast had been for cloudy and I thought maybe then I'd get out for some photos as the ice was hanging in there and the snow was still falling. Forecasting being what it is, we had mostly sunny skies and the ice was merrily melting while the world was generally snow-blind under the bright sun. It was pretty but nearly impossible conditions to photograph in. No photos that day. So this morning, I was pleased to see the cloudy skies and accepted the fact that the low teen temperatures were just something I'd have to put up with if I was going to get some snow photos of any kind. I decided to go back to Markin Glen and the photo above is from just inside the ''closed'' entrance on Douglas Avenue -- accessible now only by going in on the North Westnedge side and hiking across the park and up and down a hill or ten. If you could drive in that old, closed gate, this is what you'd see as you followed the first curve to the right ...
